What is therapy?
Psychotherapy, sometimes called "therapy" or "talk therapy" varies based on the professional's style and the needs of the client. Generally, psychotherapy begins with the development of a collaborative, confidential relationship between a client and professional with the purpose of working toward an agreed upon goal. The goal could be related to treatment of a condition like post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. In other cases, clients seek therapy to more effectively navigate daily life stressors. Effective psychotherapy is evidence-based and individualized for a client's specific needs and goals.
